Thinking About Transforming Your Home? Meet Thread Architects in Harrogate
30 October – 1 November 2026 | Harrogate Convention Centre | Stand C355
If you’re considering extending, renovating or completely reimagining your home, come and talk to Thread Architects at the Northern Homebuilding & Renovating Show in Harrogate this October.
We’ll be on stand C355 from 30 October to 1 November, where we’ll be talking to homeowners about ambitious residential projects, from whole house renovations to listed buildings, heritage properties and high performance new homes to imaginative extensions and remodels.
For homeowners in Harrogate and across Yorkshire, choosing the right architect can make a significant difference to the success of a renovation, extension or new-build project.
Is your home ready for a new chapter?
Perhaps you’ve fallen in love with an old house, but not with the way it currently works.
Perhaps your family has grown and your home needs to grow with it or you need to downsize into a smaller purpose built property.
Maybe you have a period property full of character but dark, disconnected rooms. Or a listed building that needs careful restoration and a thoughtful approach to modern living.
Or perhaps you’re looking at a new-build opportunity and want a home that is genuinely bespoke, sustainable and rooted in its surroundings.
These are exactly the kinds of projects we love.
Expertise in heritage, listed buildings and period homes
Older buildings bring enormous opportunities, but they also bring complexity.
Our experience includes working with listed buildings, historic homes, conservation areas and heritage assets, where a successful project needs to balance the character and significance of the existing building with the needs of contemporary life.
One example is Greenfold Farm, an eighteenth-century Grade II listed farmhouse formed from two historic cottages. After years of being empty, the property faced water ingress, failing timbers and structural movement. Our approach was to carefully restore and reimagine the farmhouse while creating a home that could work for modern family life.

We’ve also transformed a 16th-century barn with a contemporary glazed extension and complete internal reconfiguration, bringing light, connection and modern functionality to the historic building while respecting its character.
For us, heritage isn’t about freezing a building in time, it’s about understanding its history and what makes it special, and finding the right way to allow it to evolve.

Home extensions that feel like they belong
We also specialise in transforming existing homes through carefully considered extensions and remodelling.
The best extensions don’t simply provide more floor area. They can fundamentally change how a house feels and how you live in it.
A well-designed extension might bring natural light deep into a previously dark home, create a stronger relationship with the garden, improve the flow between rooms or introduce a completely new way of using the house.
We recently transformed a modest semi-detached home with a zinc-clad rear extension and internal reconfiguration, creating a much more connected family home. Elsewhere, we’ve used timber, glass, brick, stone and other carefully selected materials to create contemporary additions that sit comfortably alongside existing buildings.
Every project is different. That’s the point.

Sustainable and Low-energy Home Design
Good architecture should also work hard to create comfortable homes.
We are particularly interested in low-energy and sustainable design, with experience in Passivhaus and EnerPHit design as well as retrofit and sensitive upgrades to existing buildings.
For homeowners renovating an older property, this can be an especially important consideration.
Improving insulation, airtightness, windows, heating and ventilation can dramatically improve comfort and energy performance, but historic buildings need to be approached carefully. The right solution needs to respond to the construction and character of the building rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Our aim is to create homes that are not only beautiful today, but comfortable, efficient and adaptable for the future.

Come and talk to us about your project
One of the best things about a show like Homebuilding & Renovating is that you don’t need to have everything figured out before you start.
In fact, you might only have a property and a long list of things that aren’t working.
That’s enough to start a conversation.
Whether you’re wondering whether you can build on a plot of land, trying to understand what you can do with a listed building, considering a major retrofit or simply looking for ideas, come and talk to us.
We can help you explore what might be possible, what the challenges could be and where an architectural approach could add real value to your project.
