Thinking about working with us and not sure where to begin? Over the years, we’ve noticed some common questions popping up from people who are curious about how we work, what to expect, and whether we’re the right fit for their project. So we’ve gathered the ten most common questions we’re asked and pulled together a clear, helpful summary to make your first steps a little easier.

An architect helps you shape your brief, understand what’s possible, and guide your project from first ideas to completion.
At Thread, we blend creative design with technical detail, focusing on beauty, wellbeing, and getting the best from your budget. We take time to understand how you use your current spaces, or want to use them, so the designs truly supports you.
-
If you want to create beautiful, sustainable spaces that support your wellbeing and make you feel happier, an architect can make a real difference.
We believe successful projects require more than technical delivery, you also have to understand people. Working with an architect brings creative thinking, clarity and experience to your project, helping you shape your brief, explore what’s possible and avoid costly mistakes. The result is a smoother process and a better outcome.
-
Architects’ fees vary depending on the type of project and the level of service you need, from simple drawings to a full creative design process. Many of our clients enjoy the design journey as much as the finished building.
As a guide, you should typically budget around 15–20% of your overall project cost for architectural services. We provide clear, itemised proposals so you know exactly what’s included and what to expect. There are no surprises. You can find out more about our pricing here.

Not necessarily. It’s more important to find the right architect for your project, someone who understands what you’re trying to achieve and has the skill and experience to deliver it successfully. We always offer to meet clients at their home or office wherever they’re located, and we’re just a Teams or phone call away.
We’ve worked on projects from North Yorkshire to the south coast and are always happy to discuss your plans, wherever you’re based.
-
Most of our clients are doing this for the first time. We guide you step by step, explain each stage clearly, and help you make informed decisions. You’re never expected to know the jargon, that’s our job.

Building projects are a significant investment, so preparation and good design are key. We work efficiently while giving you the time and space to make informed decisions, the ones that shape the spaces you’ll enjoy for many years.
We outline a realistic programme early on and keep it updated as the project progresses, so you always know what to expect. Smaller, more simple projects could be on site within a year, more complex projects may take longer.
-
We have a strong track record of securing planning permission on sensitive or complex sites, helping to unlock the potential of challenging plots through thoughtful, high‑quality design.
We explain the process in plain language, advise on the best strategy for your project, and prepare and submit the application on your behalf, keeping you informed at every stage.

A conversation is the best first step. We usually begin with a discovery meeting, in person or on Teams, where we listen to your aims, answer your questions, and explain how we can help.
There’s no pressure to work with us if you’re still exploring your options but talking things through is the easiest way to understand what your project needs and whether we’re a good fit.
